True way of life wisdom quotes
1) “The Indian Summer of life should be a little sunny and a little sad, like the season, and infinite in wealth and depth of tone, but never hustled.”
-Henry Adams
The Indian Summer is a period of unseasonably warm, dry, and calm weather that occurs in autumn. To be a little sunny and a little sad, like the season is to say that having a very sunny weather and great happiness has its way of making us take it for granted and not really thankful for it on the long run. Wealth and depth of tone on the other hand should fairly balanced out for it is what we always need. Wealth and depth of tone shouldn't ever be hustled in the sense that they both take time to build and achieve. Rushing into it doesn't make it any better, for, it only makes it worse.
2) “Life's more amusing than we thought.”
-Andrew Lang
When we are kids we find life to be much more entertaining, funny, or that it causes us to smile or laugh. Then, when we become adults we throw away childish things by adapting to the adult hood of life. However, even when we do put childish things away, no matter our age our heart is always in our 20's. There will be a time when we feel as if we have seen and know all that there is to it to life, but the nature of us will make us realize otherwise. This is how life is more amusing than we thought.
3) “Mindfulness (paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and without judgment) is about love and loving life. When you cultivate (develop) this love, it gives you clarity (the quality of being clear, easy to understand ) and compassion (a deep awareness of the suffering of others combined with a strong wish to help ease it ) for life, and your actions happen in accordance with that.”
-Jon Kabat-Zinn
Mindfulness is defined to be paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and without judgment. To be mindful is to not dwell in the past and focus on our present moment of our purpose without any complaints. With so many things to do in life focusing on our purpose and present moment without judgment is what gives us clarity and compassion. Compassion for life is what drives us to feel the deep awareness of the suffering of others combined with a strong wish to help ease it. And therefore, our actions happen in accordance with this.
4) “Life is made up of marble and mud.”
-Nathaniel Hawthorne
Marble symbolizes the noble and pure aspects of existence, while mud represents flaws and hardships. Being noble shows great character as in a higher being than oneself and pure aspects of existence would be firm belief of why we exist in this world. Life is all about what we put our foot in and keep our foot in. There is no success in life until we fail is to say that failure will always happen, but if we keep our foot in it long enough we may achieve success. To fail the same way twice means that it isn't real is to say that if we are able to do it failure cannot happen in the same way twice. Twice is just a figure of speech whereas in the appropriate word would be failing too many times without any improvement.
5) “The whole secret of life is to be interested in one thing profoundly (very deeply) and in a thousand things well.”
-Horace Walpole
When we are young our parents train us to learn many things that will build up a great future on the long run. However, learning too many things can be a weakness, because if we learn too many things, we cannot become a professional in a certain field. If we learn a certain amount of things while focusing our main attention to one field of subject there is a connection to it all. This is how we can be well in a thousand things while being interested in one thing profoundly. As a parent, it is our job to balance these things for our child's future.
